A 19-year old girl from Ongata Rongai, Nairobi has died as she tried to rescue a man from drowning.
Ann Nduku is reported to have responded to the plea of a drowning man before offering to assist.
She is reported by BBC that she fell into the river as the man who was about to drown got out safe.
Her mother Elizabeth Mutuku explained how she tried to save her daughter by calling her name and even throwing a stick but the waters were too strong.
Residents in the area are blaming local authorities for the unfortunate events as they have failed to construct a proper bridge.
Two years ago, an old bridge was brought down as they began constructing a new one that was left halfway.
Residents were forced to improvise and use the available stones to cross to the other side of the town.
As of 2019, seven people are reported to have died at river Kandisi with the numbers expected to rise if nothing is done at this time.
