44 primary and high school students arrested in Nairobi

Detectives have on Saturday night arrested 44 students in possession of drugs at a house in Mountain view in Nairobi.

The 26 boys and 18 girls who are in primary and high school were in the company of their host when the police pounced on them.

“Detectives last night arrested 44 school children and their host, and seized various brands of alcohol and bhang in a house at Nairobi’s Mountain View Estate. The children – 26 boys and 18 girls – are aged between 14 and 17 years. All are in primary and high schools.” said DCI

Millicent Kithinji, the elderly woman who had hosted them was arrested in the process and taken in for questioning.

Further investigation revealed that the pupils were from Machakos, Kiambu and Nairobi as bhang, whisky and vodka was seized in the process.

“Their host, Millicent Kithinji, aged 41, was picked up for questioning by detectives based at Dagoretti. Officers seized different brands of Whisky and vodka & bhang (cannabis Sativa). Preliminary investigations revealed the children were from Nairobi, Kiambu Machakos counties.” said DCI

Parents of the children have already been contacted with most of them confessing they never knew that their children had sneaked out.

Detectives are now trying to establish how they got to the house and why the woman in question hosted them.

“Already, officers have contacted some of their parents. Investigations are ongoing to establish how the children sneaked out of their homes and travelled that far without raising suspicion from their parents.

Police also want to establish why the woman had hosted the children and how the children got to her house. The DCI once again requests parents to take keen interest in their children’s activities at home and on the social media networks.” said DCI
