Abdulkadir Mohamed has been declared Garissa Senator by the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) and will succeed his late father Yusuf Haji.
The declaration was made by IEBC due to the fact that their was no other candidate to compete with for the seat.

Candidates who had declared interest for the seat dropped out of the race and instead proposed and supported Abdulkadir’s candidature on a Jubilee ticket.
The three clans in the county also supported his endorsement and urged others to support him as the best choice to continue his father’s hard work for the residents.
The late Yusuf Haji who also doubled as the Chairman of Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) donated his salary to help the vulnerable in addition to completing several projects in the county.
