An Advocate has been arrested bribing an investigating officer Ksh 900,000 to secure release of five Electronic Fraud suspects.
The suspect identified as Mr. Anthony Kirunya is a practicing Advocate at Karoki and Co. Advocates was arrested by detectives based at Kasarani.
“Mr. Antony Kirunyu Karoki; a practicing advocate at Karoki & Co. Advocates was today arrested by DCI Kenya Kasarani detectives following an attempt to bribe the Investigations Officer with Kshs. 900, 000 to secure the release of Five suspects of Electronic Fraud without charges.” Said DCI

The amount was in Ksh 1,000 denomination has been taken in as exhibit pending arraignment of the Advocate to court to be charged with bribery.
His clients were arrested on Wednesday 12th August in possession of several Safaricom and Airtel line in addition to mobile phones and laptops.
“The amount which was in Ksh 1,000 denomination has been documented by the DCI Kenya Scenes of Crime personnel and kept as exhibit, with the suspect placed in custody and to be charged with several offenses under the Bribery Act No. 47 of 2016 and the Penal Code.
The five suspects were arrested yesterday, 12th August 2020, with over 2,100 registered and unregistered subscriber lines among other electronic gadgets, and were being processed for arraignment when the suspect in question appeared.”
