Al-Shabaab attack in Mandera injures one

National Police have been able to successfully defeat Al-Shabaab insurgents planning to attack eight workers at an upcoming dispensary in Mandera County.

The July 22nd event saw the eight non-locals workers escape unhurt following a swift operation by the locals and police who were able to wave off the attack.

The militias were able to escape into Somali but one local member sustained injuries and he is currently receiving treatment at Elwak hospital.

“On July 22, 2019, in Mandera County, security officers in collaboration with members of the public thwarted an attempt by Al Shabaab insurgents who had planned to attack eight workers at an upcoming dispensary construction site at Kotula in the County.

The eight non-local workers had their lives saved by the gallant acts of locals and swift action by security officers ” Said National Police

National Police has thanked the locals for alerting them and showcasing their bravery as they wished the injured person a quick recovery.

Members of the public have been called upon to alert the authority on any suspicious person or activity by calling their toll free numbers 999, 911 and 112.
