Amber Guyger a former Texas cop has been found guilty of killing 26-year-old Bothan Jean at his apartment.
The Dallas County jury took six hours to deliberate on the facts before them before they found the accused guilty of murder.
The court was filled with joy as the family and friend welcomed the verdict terming it as much-awaited justice of their loved one.
People outside the court joined the celebrations of a case that was termed as a deliberate attack on black lives.
The September 2018 incident happened when Amber Guyger was coming from her shift when she saw the Botham Jean’s apartment open.
She then went inside shooting her victim who was seated quietly in his sitting room.
Following the jury verdict, Amber wept uncontrollably as she asked for forgiveness to the affected family.
Lee Merit, the lawyer representing Jean’s family was pleased with the verdict terming it as a beginning to black life injustices.
Lee hopes the verdict will set presidents and an example to people targeting people of color in the country.
At the moment, the former Texas cop faces life imprisonment and without the right to probation.
