Ambira High School principal Joseph Otieno is on the spot for denying food students with fee arrears, allegations that the principal denied.
The second term students raised the news that they were neither allowed to attend classes nor allowed to go home causing fears among themselves.
A parent who spoke to the Star confirmed receiving distress calls from her child that they were starving but were not allowed to go home.

“Our children were calling home to report that they were not attending classes, being denied food and not being allowed to go home,” Said the parent
The parent continued by confirming that the school principal had threatened to take the direction through a WhatsApp group, a matter that they took lightly.
Even after clearing her son’s school fees, his son still complained of starving and that they are spending some days under the tree despite heavy downpour in the area.
When sought for comments, Mr. Otieno denied the allegations saying that they all students are well fed and have been participating in school games. He confirmed informing parents of students with school arrears to pay up.
“The students took breakfast, lunch and supper. Nobody… not even a quarter human being has been sent home on the basis of school fee arrears,” said Mr. Otieno.
The news is contrary to a statement issued by Education CS Prof. George Magoha who called on school principal not to send home students with school fees arrears. He noted that as government, they will disperse capitation funds that will be used to carter for school daily operations.
