Anti riot police in Kisumu step in to save troubled speaker

Anti-riot police dispersed angry Kisumu MCAs who denied the embattled speaker Onyango Oloo into the County Assembly.

The troubled Speaker is said to have arrived early Wednesday morning to take up his role only to be dispersed by his opposition who are calling for his exit.

Anti-riot police were forced to intercept to cool things down as residents scampered for safety in the early morning hours.

The protest follows a motion tabled by Kondele MCA Joachim Oketch who called for his permanent removal.

The Kondele MCA cited the recent corruption allegations as part of the reason he should step down to pave way for investigation.

In addition to that, he is accused of going against the County standing orders something that has angered most MCAs in Kisumu.

Oketch is optimistic that the motion will make through the chambers as he has already garnered several signatures.

Last week there was trouble at the County Assembly as MCAs picked an acting speaker.

Kisumu North MCA Elisha Oraro was picked angering many others who were not satisfied with the choice.
