Author and gay activist Binyavanga Wainaina’s memorial service is underway at the National Museum Nairobi.
Yesterday his body was cremated as family and friends paid their last respect to the award winning author.
The late Binyavanga Wainaina passed away last week at the age of 48 after suffering stroke.
In 2016 Wainaina came out to reveal he was HIV positive and he was set to wed his Nigerian lover in South Africa.
He was also the founder of literary magazine Kwani and won the Caine Prize for African Writing in 2002 for his short story Discovering Home.

Before meeting his death Wainaina is said to have gone underground because of the neglect and abuse he faced from the community in the last few years.
