Botswana health authorities detect new COVID-19 variant

Health authorities in Botswana have discovered a new COVID-19 variant which has been termed as a sub lineage of the highly infectious Omicron virus.

The new variant has so for been confirmed from two people who have had a recent history of travel.

“Health authorities in Botswana say they’ve detected a new COVID-19 variant, designating it as ‘BA.4 and BA.5’, calling it a ‘sub-lineage’ of the highly infection Omicron strain. The variant has been found in four individuals, two with a recent history of travel.” Said CGTN
