Busia County Assembly passes BBI amendment bill

Busia County Assembly has become the fourth county to pass the BBI amendment bill with MCAs endorsing the bill on Tuesday.

The county now follows the likes of Siaya, Homabay and Kisumu who were the first counties to pass the bill in overwhelming numbers.

Siaya County Assembly in one voice were the first one to pass the bill raising questions as to whether the document underwent the necessary public participation.

Speaking outside the assembly, the Speaker revealed how they engaged the public in civic education through advertisements on local dailies and radio stations before a final bill was tabled before the house.

Same was the case in Kisumu as the document was taken through the necessary stages before MCAs were allowed to vote for it.

So far, Baringo is the only county in the country that has rejected the bill after a long batle at the Assembly.

Police were forced to intervene and lobby teargas into the air to disperse the large crowd outside the Assembly resulting to a near fire incident when a canister exploded.
