Businesswoman Joyce Akinyi arrested for drug trafficking

Police in Nairobi West have arrested controversial businesswoman Joyce Akinyi for drug trafficking.

During the Saturday raid at Joyce Akinyi’s house, police were able to find 2 kilograms of Heroin valued at Ksh 3 million.

Arrested alongside the controversial businesswoman was a Congolese man who together were taken to Muthaiga Police Station pending to be arraigned in court on Monday.

In 2015, businesswonan Joyce Akinyi who was then married to Nigerian Anthony Chinedu was arrested over alleged drug trafficking at a Nairobi hospital.

Her then husband was later deported by the Kenyan government.

In 2013, Joyce Akinyi was arrested in connection to drug trafficking alongside Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala.

They were later released after they claimed they were carrying maize flour imported from Tanzania.

In 2008, Wanjala and Akinyi were detained in New Delhi after India authorities found them with undeclared Ksh 7.6 million.

New Delhi authority was at the time investigating if the cash was proceeds of drug trafficking.

Luckily, they were released following government intervention.
