Census 2019: Mutua orders closure of bars in Machakos

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has ordered the closure of all bara and shop in the county during the census period.

In his press release, the Machakos Governor has said the move is to enable the accurate collection of data during the forthcoming census scheduled to begin on 24th August.

“To enable the accurate collection of data during the forthcoming census exercise, I am directing that places of entertainment be closed in Machakos County, to allow families to be together.” Said Mutua

The closure of bars and joints that sell alcohol or engage in entertainment will be from 6:00 am on Saturday 24th to 6:00 pm on Sunday 25th August.

All Markets, shops, and open-air markets have been ordered to close by 5:00 pm on Saturday 24th and reopen at 9:00 am Sunday 25th August 2019.

Factories and construction sites have been ordered to stop operation from midday, 24th August to Monday 26th August at 6:00 am.

The breaks are to ensure all employees take time and travel to their respective homes for important national activity.

Punishment for violating Census order

Those found going against the orders stand the risk of having their business permits canceled, arrested and pay hefty fines.

At the moment village administrators, ward administrators and inspectorate have been deployed to ensure the orders go as planned.

“Those who disregard these set times will incur heavy and punitive measures that may include canceling of their business permits, arrests and hefty fines.

I direct my Village Administrators, Ward Administrators, Inspectorate and all concerned to ensure full compliance of this Executive Order.” Said Governor Mutua
