China approves construction of SGR to Kisumu

Phase 2B of the constructions of the standard gauge railway from Naivasha to Kisumu is still on as revealed by transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia.

Speaking from Beijing China, CS James Macharia said Kenya is aligning itself with neighbors Uganda since SGR is regional project.

The Transport CS was speaking to Daily Nation when he added that the time to complete the whole project might have changed but the Chinese government was in the process of releasing funds.

Kenya which is a gate of the SGR which runs from Lamu-Mombasa-Naivasha-Kisumu-Lake Victoria connects to the West Africa.

The country can however not develop the whole structure on its own thus the need to align itself with other regions doing the same.

Once the phase 2A is complete and operational in September then the SGR will be extended to reach Kisumu and finally Malaba.
