Rashid Yakub, the Coast Regional Commander was allegedly assaulted by Governor Mike Sonko in Voi has dropped his charges.
The Coast Commander in an application stated that he wishes not to pursue the charges against Governor Sonko.
In December last year, Yakub was allegedly assaulted by the Governor as they arrested him following an arrest order issued by the DPP.
- Judge Mumbi Ngugi disqualifies herself from Sonko’s case
- DPP Hajji set to impose harsh bail terms against Sonko
- Sonko no show in Voi to answer assault charges
Sonko did not, however, answer the charges and Rashid Yakub’s change of mind will be something to smile about.
Following his arrest, the Nairobi Governor’s behavior in Voi caused the Inspector General of Police to file charges against him.
The news comes at a time when High Court Judge Mumbi Ngugi disqualified herself from hearing his case.
In a previous application by the Nairobi Governor, he had requested the Judge to disqualify herself citing a biassed ruling.
It will be remembered that Judge Mumbi Ngugi ruled against charged governors resuming duties until when cleared by the court.
