Communication Authority of Kenya has announced the release of a new mobile number prefix 01xx that will be used in addition to the existing 07xx.
Confirming the new prefix was Communication of Kenya Director General Francis Wangusi who said the existing prefix has been exhausted.
In addition to that, demand has also increased attributed by the rising demand of SIM cards, mobile date and machine to machine communication among other emerging technologies.
