Construction of Soin-Koru dam to end Nyando floods

Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyongó today held a meeting with the board of Directors of the National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation.

The meeting was led by Chairman Julius Kones on the proposed Soin-Koru Multipurpose dam.

The dam has been in the plan of Kisumu County water master plan and that it will be constructed along River Nyando.

Dam benefits

The construction of the dam is set to assist in the controlling of perennial flooding in the lower Nyando. It will also provide treated domestic water supply to parts of Kericho and Kisumu County, provide water for rice irrigable land for food security and also provide hydro-power to the national grid and for use at the water treatment plant.
