Court dismisses Martha Karua’s petition against Waiguru

Supreme Court has on Tuesday dismissed the petition filed by Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.

Martha Karua had moved to the highest court to challenge the election of the Kirinyaga Governor.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Isaac Lenaola dismissed the petition saying that the petitioner failed to prove that there was bribery during the general elections.

He continued by calling on both parties to bear the cost of in hearing the cases at the High Court and the Supreme Court.

In 2018, Martha Karua had moved to the High Court to challenge the election of Governor Anne Waiguru but her case was dismissed by Judge Lucy Gitari.

In her verdict, Judge Lucy said that the petition failed to prove the election of Hon. Anne Waiguru was mired with bribery.

She then ordered Martha Karua to pay a cost of Ksh 5 million.

During the 2017 general elections, Governor Anne Waiguru emerged the winner with 153,353 votes against 116,626 votes garnered by Karua.
