COVID-19: 2,352 health workers test positive in Kenya

Kenya has recorded 2,352 cases of COVID-19 from health workers out of which 30 of them have succumbed to the virus.

“Currently, 2,352 health care workers have tested positive for the virus, out of which 1,177 are males and 1,175 are females. The cumulative fatality for healthcare workers is 30.” said Ministry of Health.

The ministry was speaking as they confirmed 925 new cases of the virus from 5,559 samples tested in the last 24 hours. This now brings to 71,729 the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the country.

“Today 925 people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 5,559 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 71,729 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country. The cumulative tests are now 798,585. From the cases 893 are Kenyans and 32 are foreigners.” said MOH

Distribution of the cases by Counties see Nairobi lead with 358 new cases, Kiambu 102, Mombasa 59, Nakuru 39, Nyeri 39, Machakos 32, Busia 32, Kisumu 29, Kilifi 28, Kajiado 25, Siaya 23, Meru 20, Laikipia 20, Kisii 15, Uasin Gishu 14, Bungoma 13, Baringo 12, Nyamira 10, Embu 9, Vihiga 9, Lamu 8, Tharaka Nithi 7, Makueni 5, Samburu 3, Kericho 2, Kakamega 2, Murang’a 2, Kwale 1, Kirinyaga 1, West Pokot 1, Garissa 1, Bomet 1, Migori 1, Trans Nzoia 1, and Turkana 1.

On a positive note, 1,018 patients recovered from the virus out of whom 850 of them are from home-based care and the rest from various hospitals. The number of recoveries now stand at 47,262.

“1,018 patients have recovered from the disease, 850 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 168 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total recoveries now stand at 47,262.” said MOH

At the same time, 15 patients died from the disease bringing to 1,302 the number of fatalities from the virus.
