COVID-19 cases in Kenya nears 50,000 as 931 test positive

Kenya has on Sunday confirmed 931 new positive cases of COVID-19 as the cumulative number of cases hits 49,721.

The new cases are from 6,691 samples tested in the past 24 hour bringing to 659,920 the cumulative number of samples tested.

“931 people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 6,691 tested in the last 24 hours. This brings to 49,721 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country. Our cumulative tests are now 659,920.  896 are Kenyans & 35 are foreigners. 615 males & 316 females.” Said MOH.

In terms of distribution, Nairobi leads with 333 new cases, Mombasa 95, Nakuru 85, Trans Nzoia 61, Kericho 60, Turkana 54, Kisumu 39, Uasin Gishu 24, Kakamega 24, Kiambu 23, Busia 19, Kitui 18, Kajiado 16, Machakos 14, Kisii 12, Garissa 11, Murang’a 9, Nyamira 7, Nandi 6, Kirinyaga 4, Vihiga 3, Isiolo 3, Meru 2, Homa Bay 2, Embu 2, Kilifi 1, Kwale 1, Narok 1, Migori 1 and Tharaka Nithi 1.

On a positive note, 333 patients recovered from the virus who comprise of 256 home-based patients and 77 from various hospitals. This brings to 34,209 the number of recoveries.

“Today, 333 people have recovered from the disease, 256 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 77 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 34,209.” Said MOH

Sadly, 6 more patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours bringing to 902 the number of deaths in the country.

The news come at a time when 18 patients are still in the ICU, 49 on supplementary oxygen and 16 in the Highly Dependency Unit.
