COVID-19: Kenya’s new infections rise by 685 to 44,881

Kenya has on Sunday recorded 685 new cases of coronavirus from 4,912 samples tested in the past 24 hours as confirmed by the Ministry of Health.

The new cases now bring to 44,881 the cumulative number of confirmed cases as the cumulative samples now stand at 621,976.

Out of the new cases, 635 of them are Kenyans and 50 are foreigners comprising of 456 males and 229 females aged between 1-year and 99-years of age.

“Today, 685 people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 4,912 tested in the last 24 hours. This is a positivity rate of 12%, up from around 4% when we relaxed containment measures.

The country now has 44,881 number of confirmed positive cases from 621,976 cumulative tests. From the cases, 635 are Kenyans while 50 are foreigners. In terms of gender 456 are males and 229 are females. The youngest is a one-year old baby while the oldest is 99 years.

Distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi 141, Nakuru 127, Mombasa 73, Trans Nzoia 61, , Kisii 37, Kiambu 30, Kakamega 27, Kisumu 27, Busia 20, Kilifi 18, Nandi 18, Nyeri 14, Turkana 14, Nyamira 10, Kajiado 9, Taita Taveta 9, Bungoma 8, Uasin Gishu 6, Laikipia 6, Machakos 6, Baringo 5, Murang’a 3, Meru 3, Wajir 3, Kitui 2, Kwale 2, Makueni 2, Siaya 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Vihiga 1 and Isiolo 1.” Said MOH.

In the same 24 hours, 105 patients recovered from the virus bringing to 31,857 the number of recoveries. 73 of the patients are from home-based care and 32 are from various hospitals.

“105 people have recovered from the disease, 73 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 32 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 31,857.”Said MOH

A total of 7 people died in the country bringing to 832 the number of fatalities so far confirmed by the Ministry of Health.
