Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr. Fred Matiang’i has banned with immediate effect disco matanga in Trans-Nzoia county.
Speaking from the country, the interior CS blamed the culture for the high number of teenage pregnancies’ in the county, the highest in the country so far.
About 10,000 school going children are reported to have either fallen pregnant or delivered already with a majority of them dropping out of school to attend to the children.

Matiang’i ordered the county police boss to arrest those who will continue with the vice including the arrest of adults involved in impregnating the young girls in the society.
“With immediate effect,the practice known as Disco Matanga is banned in Transzoia County. It has contributed to record numbers of teenage pregnancies, the highest witnessed in the country. Furthermore, investigations & arrests of adults responsible for these pregnancies is ongoing” Said the Interior CS.
A series of meeting will also be held between the CS and the county Chiefs to get the exact number of pregnant girls as the CS threatened the arrest of Chiefs whose localities have the highest numbers.
Until today, only two TSC teachers have been arrested in regard to the vice with many other arrests set to be made soon as ordered by the CS.
