Interior Ministry led by CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i has declared Monday, August 29th as a public holiday in eight election areas of Mombasa, Kakamega, Kacheliba, Kitui Rural, Rongai, and Pokot South.
The news comes hours after three petitioners from Mombasa filed a petition before the court seeking a public holiday for residents of the eight election areas come Monday, August 29th.
According to the three, the eight areas should exercise their civic duty on Monday just like it was during the general elections on 9th August 2022.

Even before the petition, those allied with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga cried foul play from IEBC accusing them of deliberately suspending elections to favor their political rivals.
Confirming the same was the former Prime Minister who called on IEBC Deputy Chairperson Juliana Cherera to lead the elections citing biasness by the Commission Chairperson Wafula Chebukati.
