Education CS Prof. George Magoha has confirmed that day schools in Mombasa and Kakamega will remain closed on August 29th to pave way for elections in the two counties.
Speaking on Tuesday, the CS noted that as a ministry they have held discussions with IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati and agreed on a number of things related to education.
According to Magoha, students in boarding schools in Mombasa and Kakamega will remain at school where they will use dormitory and field as elections continue in the centers designated by the commission.

He was speaking as he took note of the interrupted school calendar in August as students were forced to stay at home longer so as to pave way for the election. He noted that it won’t be the case this time around.
The ministry of education and IEBC have both agreed that the tallying process will be conducted at tertiary institutions across the two cities so as pave way for normal school programs.
On Monday, the Commission held a successful meeting with candidates in the postponed elections where they agreed on August 29th as the date for the elections.
The candidates were also allowed to continue with their campaigns which should end 48 hours before the election kicks off as per IEBC regulations.
