Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have arrested one David Kariuki, a man who was caught on video assaulting a police officer.
41-year-old David was arrested at Gikambura in Kikuyu with the DCI detective’s confiscating his motor vehicle and a mobile phone robbed from the police officer.
“@DCI_Kenya Detectives based in #Karen arrested the Suspect; 41-year-old David Kariuki Kamurwa at Gikambura within Kikuyu. The Motor vehicle registration number KCT 730Q confiscated & a Mobile phone which had earlier been robbed from the officer recovered. To be charged tomorrow.” Said DCI
On Thursday a video went viral of the suspect assaulting the traffic officer as he tried to arrest him before members of the public intervened.
In the video, David could be seen engaging the officer as he held an object that could not be identified.
Passersby rushed to the scene before pulling out the officer from the car before ascending on the suspect who luckily escaped the scene.
A report by police said that David was on the run after causing an accident in Karen. Police officers were radioed the incident and called to act on the suspect.
It was the police officer at Ngong area who stopped the suspect who then turned violent on him.
