On Thursday, his body was laid to rest next to his parents in Italy in a private event attended by close family and friends only.
Argentines in thousands flocked the streets as the hearse carrying the legend made its way from the Presidential palace where it has been lying in state since Wednesday.
Police had a tough time controlling the huge crowd that threatened to breakthrough and view his body as they waved the country’s flag.
While lying in state at the Presidential palace, his casket was closed, covered by Argentine flag but those coming in threw flowers above it. His jersey bearing the number 10 he used to play was also available.
