Diego Maradona: football legend laid to rest in Buenos Aires

Football legend Diego Maradona was on Thursday laid to rest in Bueno Aires in Italy as thousand flocked the streets to bid farewell the Argentine.

The burial comes a day after the World Cup winner succumbed to a cardiac arrest on Wednesday at the age of 60 weeks after undergoing a brain surgery to remove a blood clot.

Maradona’s life has faced the ups and downs as he was celebrated for his contribution in football but privately battled drug addiction that had threatened his life many times.

On Thursday, his body was laid to rest next to his parents in Italy in a private event attended by close family and friends only.

Argentines in thousands flocked the streets as the hearse carrying the legend made its way from the Presidential palace where it has been lying in state since Wednesday.

Police had a tough time controlling the huge crowd that threatened to breakthrough and view his body as they waved the country’s flag.

While lying in state at the Presidential palace, his casket was closed, covered by Argentine flag but those coming in threw flowers above it. His jersey bearing the number 10 he used to play was also available.
