DPP drops charges against charged NYS suspects

The Director of Public Prosecutions DPP has on Monday dropped charges against the eight NYS suspect.

Speaking on Monday before Milimani Court Principal Margistrate Peter Ooko, fresh charges were read to the remaining suspects.

Four of the suspects will remain state witnesses as revealed by prosecution as they look to unearth Ksh 231 million loss in the National Youth Service(NYS).

Eight of the suspects whose charges were dropped include Clara Mbau, Rodgers Nzioka, Sammy Michuki, Christopher Malala, Josephat Njoroge, Stephen Muchai, Simon Kiiru and Lucas Otieno.

The DPP however noted that will there be new evidence, the suspects will be rearrested and charged afresh.

The DPP further said that the stolen NYS money was recorded as pending bills and he will prove to the court that it did not fit into the description of pending bills.

The suspects were first arraigned in court in September 2018.
