DPP Hajji set to impose harsh bail terms against Sonko

DPP Noordin Hajji is set to press form more harsh bail terms against Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

The decision by the DPP follows his Monday appointment of Ann Kananu Mwenda as his Deputy.

In a letter sent to Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi, Governor Sonko called for the vetting of Ann Kananu before she takes over her new job.

According to the DPP, the Nairobi Governor violated the bail terms even though he made the announcement following a video shared from his home.

If the accusation by Hajji convinces the Judge, Sonko may likely have harsh bail terms or even face imprisonment awaiting trial.

Senator Kipchumba Murkomen defended his client saying he did not violate any bail terms by appointing a Deputy.

“Going by our earlier interpretation of the Court of Appeal decision, Gov.Sonko has not violated his bail terms by appointing a Deputy Governor.

In any case, there is no connection between appointments and the protection of evidence relating to DPP’s case.”

Sonko just like the two other Governors implicated in graft allegations was ordered to stay out of the office until he is cleared by the court.

On Monday he said his appointment of Anne Kananu was to ensure the stability of Nairobi County since he is serving orders of the court.
