Dr. Hussein Mwinyi has been declared the new president elect of Zanzibar beat 14 others to clinch the top seat.
According to the ZEC the governing body, Mwinyi emerged victorious bagging 76.27% of the total votes cast.

The CCM candidate is now the eighth President of Zanzibar with the total number of voters turning up being 498,786 from a total of 566,352 who registered to vote.
Yesterday, Mwinyi who was accompanied by his wife exercised their right to vote as they called on voters to maintain peace.
“Today my wife Mariam and I have exercised our constitutional right to vote in Kariakoo constituencies in Kwahani constituency at 2.25 am. I call on Zanzibaris to turn out in large numbers to vote without forgetting to maintain peace and stability.” Said Mwinyi
