Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives have on Wednesday morning arrested the former National Lands Commission (NLC) Chairman Muhammed Swazuri over graft allegations.
The EACC detectives arrested Muhammed Swazuri alongside other officials at their Nairobi homes and have been taken in for questioning.
Both Swazuri and the other officials have been linked to the fraudulent compensation of land acquired by the commission during the construction of the Mombasa Southern Bypass in 2013.
A total amount of Ksh 109 million is in question over alleged improper valuation of lands during compensation.
The land in question is that of Tornado Carriers Limited that was estimated to be valued at Ksh 34 million but NLC ended paying up Ksh 109 million as compensation.
Speaking following the arrest, DPP Noordin Hajji questioned the Commissions compensation amount and how realistic a land could have tripled in price in a span of two years.
