Sherine Abdel-Wahab has banned from performing in her home country after suggesting that Egypt does support free speech.
In viral video making rounds on the social media, the singer could be heard during a concert saying “here I can say whatever I want, in Egypt anyone who talks gets imprisoned.”
Egypt’s Muscian Union responding to the video on Friday barred the singer from performing and as well summoned her for questioning.
Samir Sabry, a pro-government lawyer with reputation for moral watch lodged a complaint against the Egyptian singer for insulting Egypt and inviting suspicious groups to interfere with the country’s affair.
Its not the first time that Sherine Abdel-Wahab has found herself in the wrong side of the law having been sentenced six months to prison last year.
The singer was quoted saying that the Nile was polluted but she later apologized terming it as a bad joke.
