Eight arrested for failing to pay Ksh 4.4m hotel bill pay

A Nairobi hotel has accused eight people of failing to pay a bill of Ksh 4.4million as they were arraigned in Milimani court.

The eight are said to have received an invitation from Caroline Muthoni to join her in celebrating her achievement in National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the Clarence House Hotel.

They are said to have checked into the hotel on May 22 for a week-long celebration that was to end on May 30th.

Management of the hotel become suspicious of them and they requested them to pay on for the eight to become reluctant.

They were forced to detain them in the premise before handing them over to the police.

Appearing before Milimani Magistrate Caroline Muthoni, Marylynne Chege, Victor Oduor, Natasha Wanjiru, Jackline Wanjiru, Alvin Onyango, Julius Mwangi and Grace Wanjiru were charged with intent to defraud the hotel.

Six of the suspects opted to settle the matter outside court paying Ksh 100,000 each as Victor Omondi and Alvin Onyango placing their Toyota Mark X as security as they clear the balance.

Caroline Muthoni and Julius Mwangi pleaded not guilty to the charges as they were slapped with a credit note of Ksh 3.8 million.

The case will be mention in two weeks’ time.
