Former 400m world champion Nicholas Bett’s body has on Wednesday been escorted from Eldoret Hospital Mortuary by his fellow athletes.
Nicholas Bet passed away last week after the car he was driving hit a bump before rolling into a ditch days after returning from Nigeria where he had participated in the championship.
During the time of his death, Bett was alone in the car as confirmed by Nandi Police Commander Patrick Wambani.
Among those who were present at the morgue to pay their last respect include former world 1500m champion Asbel kiprop, Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge, former Olympic 800m champion Janet Jepkosgei among others.
Nicholas Bett will be buried on Thursday at his home in Uasin Gishu County.
Bett went to Simat Primary School before joining Paul Biot Secondary School. He was then transferred to Cheptil Secondary before joining the National Police Service.
Before meeting his death, the former world champion was stationed at Kondele Police Station in Kisumu.
His burial has however been brought forward from Friday to Thursday of this month following a family decision.
It’s however not clear if the Deputy President William Ruto will be in attendance.
