Properties of unknown value was on Thursday morning destroyed after a huge inferno razed down Suq Mugdi market in Garissa County.
The 3 am incident saw traders rush to the scene to salvage the little that they can as police officers guarded the scene as investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the inferno.
So far no injuries have been reported as traders at the market called on the government to help them resume business and ensure enough measures are put in place to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

It has also been revealed that the incident has occurred for the 17th time with the first one being reported in 1994. Residents confirmed that such incidents frequently occur during election periods.
As the country’s inflation is on the rise, the traders were just adjusting to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing drought situation in the country.
