Five soldiers have been killed and others injured following an attack in Lamu.
The Wednesday morning attack occurred after the truck the soldiers were ran over an explosive device along the Kiunga-Sankuri road.
Speaking after the incident, KDF Spokesman Colonel Paul Njuguna confirmed the attack that happened when the soldiers are said to have been on a humanitarian assignment. The attack happened at 8 am in the morning.
In 2015 the Government launched an operation called operation Linda Boni which its main task was to flush out Al Shabab in Lamu.
During the operations, officers have been patrolling the dense forest together with other agencies.
The five dead have been confirmed with injured receiving treatment after the attack. Colon Njuguna took time to appreciate locals for assisting the soldiers and called upon them to assist in the fight against Al Shabaab in the area.
Roads heading to Lamu have for a long time remained impassible with those intending to use them receiving escort from the deployed soldiers.
