Former CS Michael Kamau to be tried in a tender case of Ksh 33 million

Former cabinet secretary Michael Kamau to be tried in a Ksh 33 million tender case awarded to Kundan Singh construction.

Mr Kamau was the face behind former president Mwai Kibaki’s success when he was a road engineer and saw the success of rebuilding the country’s infrastructure.He was then appointed by now president Uhuru Kenyatta as the cabinet secretary in charge of developing infrastructure including the Standard Gauge Railways.

Currently the investigation file has been handed over to the Director of Public Prosecution after EACC raided his home in Nairobi Karen.

Its not the first time that Mr Michael Kamau is facing the same charges.During his mothers funeral he was quoted saying”I am not a thief and God knows that Michael Kamau is not a thief,” he said then. “I am not saying this to draw pity. I know why I’m being crucified. I know those who come to my office and say ‘if you don’t do this you will be prosecuted

Procurement rule failure

Mr Kamau was previously charged alongside five others in Nairobi court for failing to follow procurement rules and abuse of office when awarding tender for the construction of Kamukuywa-Kaptama- Kapsokwony-Sirisia road.

He however fought the case arguing that EACC was not properly constituted at that time.The three member judge bench at time has forwarded his name to the office of the DPP and had not stoped EACC from reviving the case.

At that time Mr Michael had rise to become president Mwai kibaki PS for roads,a docket that controls billion of shillings set aside for improving the country’s infrastructure.

Other legal battles

Last year Mr Michael Kamau was accused by the committee on Kenya Airport Authority Duty Free shops of misleading the country that there are no pending cases in regard to ownership of the duty free shops contested bybusinessmen Kamlesh Pattni and Nazzir Ibrahim Ali.

The office of the DPP and EACC are at the moment under pressure to close all pending cases and charge government officials in an attempt to please the public and shut down all cartels inside the government.
