Former Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rashid Echesa has been arrested after surrendering in Matungu over Thursday turn of events.
A heavy police presence transported the former CS to Kakamega police station a day after he was caught on video slapping an IEBC officer in Matungu.
The arrest was also made a day after IG Hillary Mutyambai called on Echesa to surrender by Friday1 in the Afternoon.

During the heating by-elections, Echesa demanded to know why his agents were blocked from supervising the voting exercise as he slapped the IEBC official as he tried to explain.
After the incident, he went into hiding giving the police a hard time to arrest him before the IG issued a warning that failure to surrender by Afternoon he will them be treated as armed and dangerous criminal.
“The IG has directed Hon. Rashid Echesa who is on the run after assaulting an election official to surrender to the nearest Police Station by 1.00 pm this afternoon otherwise he will be treated as an armed and dangerous criminal,” Said Police spokesman Charles Owino.
The statement by Charles Owino also called on the suspension of firearm licenses of all those who participated in the violence in addition to undertaking the firearms through ballistic investigation.
Also under investigation is Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala’s bodyguard who shot during the violence before going into hiding. The bodyguard was later on arrested.
