Former UN Secretary General Koffi Annan has passed away

Former United Nations Secretary General Koffi Annan has passed away.

Koffi Annan is said to have passed away on Saturday morning in Switzerland after a short illness.

The for UN Secretary general will be remembered in Kenya for bringing peace during the 2007/8 post-election violence united former president Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

During the peace meeting, Mr.Koffi washanded over the “secret envelope” from the Waki led investigation.

The envelope was handed over Luis Moreno Ocampo who forwarded it to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Mr. Moreno was the Chief Prosecutor at that time.

Investigation results led to the arrest of now President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, Henry Kosgey, Francis Muthaura, Hussein Ali and Joshua Arap Sang.

All the charges leveled against the six were dropped in 2016.

The Ghanaian will remembered for his soft-spoken character that is said to have awarded him an international recognition.

He has worked with United Nations over the years in different capacities.
