Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has launched free milk program for all public ECDE centers in Nairobi County.
The Launch was done as Martin Luther Primary school in Makadara.
“Earlier today during launch of free milk program for all public ECDE centers within Nairobi County at Martin Luther Primary School in Makadara.” Said Governor Mike Sonko.
The project which is in partnership with Brookside Dairy will see over 17,000 students in the 229 ECDE centers in Nairobi County received free milk twice a week.
In addition to the free milk, Governor Sonko also promised to hire addition 520 ECDE teachers as well as construct news ECDE Centers in each of the 85 wards in Nairobi.
“Over 17,000 children in our 229 ECDE centers will be receiving milk twice a week in the new partnership with Brookside Dairy.
My administration is in the process of hiring 520 ECDE teachers as well as construct new ECDE centers in each of the 85 Wards.” Said Hon. Mike Sonko during the launch.
Brookside Dairy is well known for its good association with children across the country than other companies in Kenya.
They annually sponsor school activities through Brookside East African Games nurturing talents of young pupils across the country. Games sponsored by Brookside include football, basketball, athletics and many more.
Project development
Governor Mike Sonko also announced the construction of a 700 bed capacity ward at Mama Lucy Hospital in Kayole.
The project will see a modern intensive care and high dependency units as well as additional general wards in order to decongest the hospital.
The project was had stalled for more than two years due to lack of funds will be completed in the next three months.
Kenyans have however called on the Governor to ensure that drugs are made available at the hospital as doctors are said to be sending patients to the nearest chemist to get screening and blood test done.
