Gor beat rivals AFC Leopard’s in Mashemeji derby

Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia have today beaten their rivals AFC Leopards to extend their unbeaten run to 52 games, 12 points ahead and with three matches at hand.

The game kicked off after a minute of silence in honor of the mother of Kenyan Star Dennis Oliech, Mary Aumba Oliech who died on Friday after a long battle with cancer.

Referee Israel Mpaima flashed the first yellow card of the match after Harun Shakava of Gor brought down Jaffari Owiti on the left flank of the pitch.

Shakava came close to breaking the deadlock in 17th minute after George “Blackberry” Odhiambo cross hit the roof of the net. Leopard’s defender Salim Abdallah’s blunder gave Gor the lead five minutes later after Tuyisenge intercepted a back pass before scoring the opener.

Tuyisenge came close to doubling the lead after Wafula Innocent’s cross missed the net narrowly in the 40th minute.

Gor Mahia who were dominating possession in the first half,saw Ingwe push further upward in search of a goal before Gor goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch gathered an Ingwe freekick.

In the dying last minute of the first half, AFC Leopard’s scored an equalizer through Isuza after putting behind the net a well taken volley sending their fans into frenzy.

In the 54th minute of the match, Gor restored their lead after George “Blackberry” Odhiambo finished off Francis Kahata’s pass.

Today’s AFC Leopard’s defeat extends their loss to five in the Kenya Premier league.Sofapak lie position two in the table 12 points behing league leaders Gor Mahia.
