Governor Fernandes Barasa grilled by EACC over Ksh 18B KETRACO loss

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa was on Monday a guest of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) who grilled him over Ksh 18 billion scandal at KETRACO.

The said amount comprised of losses incurred by the government during the installation of power lines in Turkana meant to increase electricity supply in the country.

The commission sought to understand the role of the Governor during the project that saw loss of taxpayer money. The public investment committee also sought to understand the said loss.

The Lake Turkana wind power project which was the largest in Africa was to see the country inject an additional 400KV near Loyangalani as KETRACO connected the power lines to the main grid.

A look into the project revealed issuance of a number of contracts which eventually led to the loss of the said amount under investigation by the public service committee.
