Governor Mike Sonko finalizing on a state-of-the art Gikomba market

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has today confirmed the finalization of the construction of the modern ad state-of-the-art and highrise Gikomba market.

The new market will have five floors that will have a total of 525 stalls thus can fit all traders currently situated at the business centre.

The Nairobi City County Government will jointly work with the State Department of Housing, Urban Development and Public works to endure that the new development complies with all the safety and environment regulations.

The new market will see the connection of water, electricity, expansion of the sewer system around the area, installation of flood lights and installation of CCTV cameras.

According to Governor Sonko, the new market will put an end to the perennial fire disasters that have taken away the lives of people and loss of property.

In June this year, Gikomba market experienced a fire breakout that killed 15 people living more than 70 people. The injured were taken to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.
