Governor Ngilu sues county Speaker over funds

Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu has moved to court to challenge the county Speaker’s decision blocking her from accessing funds.

Governor Ngilu’s decision follows a letter from the Office of the Controller of Budget (OCOB) to the County Executive Committee of Finance saying that the funds will only be released once a letter from the County Speaker is served to them.

Kitui County budget was approved by the County Assembly on June 28th but the Speaker has not yet communicated in writing the approval in the stipulated time.

In a suit filed by the Governor, Ngilu shares her frustration saying that the decision has made it difficult for her to pay county staff on time.

Hon. Charity Ngilu proceeds to request the National Treasury for reallocation of funds to pay county staff salaries.

Kitu County fell short in the collection by Ksh 498 million which was channeled in payment of accrued tax arrears.
