Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has today revealed his four candidates for the vacant Nairobi Deputy Governor seat.
The seat fell vacant in January after Mr. Polycarp Igathe resigned in what was termed as “bad working conditions.
” Speaking during a radio interview on Wednesday, Governor Sonko said that he has shortlisted four candidates who are all women. The candidates are namely Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, business woman Agnes Kagure, lawyer Karen Nyamu and Jane Weru.
The governor also took time to discuss his initial choice of Dr. Miguna Miguna where he said he regrets the appointment he made. He explained further that the reason as to why he appointed Dr Miguna Miguna was to silence those who were blackmailing him as to who he should appoint.
Mr. Sonko also added that this time he will consult with his party first before making any decisions. He said he will discuss with the President, Deputy President William Ruto, Secretary General Raphael Tuju and all other party leaders.

His choice for a female candidate is due to the gender equality among top positions in the country.
Last year In November Nyeri Governor Dr. Wahome Gakuru died after a grisly accident rendering his seat vacant. His position did not last long as his deputy was quickly promoted to the Governor’s position.
Governor Sonko has advised member s of the Senate to make changes to the succession of Governor’s as he fears Deputy Governors may at one kill their bosses in order to occupy the seat. He called for a law that will require a fresh election to be conducted in case the Governor’s seat falls vacant.
