Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waitiu and wife Susan Wangari will spend the night in custody pending a bail hearing set for Tuesday.
Governor Waititu is charged alongside eight other suspects for the irregular issuance of Ksh 588 million tenders for the County.
Appearing before Magistrate Lawrance Mugambi, The Governor, his wife, Kiambu County Chief Officer for Roads Lucas Wahinya and five others were accused of irregular issuance of tender contrary to procurement law.

Governor Waititu on the other side was accused of conflict of interest as he reported to have received Ksh 25 million from Testimony Enterprise Limited.
In addition to that, Waititu is said to have received Ksh 18 million from Testimony Enterprise, a company which was awarded the county tender through Saika Two Estate where the Governor is said to be the Director.
Bienvenue Delta Hotel is said to have awarded the Governor Ksh 7 million, a hotel reported to be run by the Governor and his wife Susan Wangari.
Having gone missing since his warrant of arrest was issued, Governor Waititu surrendered to the EACC on Sunday and arraigned in court on Monday alongside his wife.
