Governor Obado pleads not guilty to Sharon’s death

Migori Governor Okoth Obado has on Monday pleaded not guilty to the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Atieno.

Governor Obado appeared before the High Court in Nairobi ahere he pleaded not guilty after being cleared fit to face trial in the death of the University student.

He was ordered by Judge Jessie Lessit to remain in remand at Industrial Area Remand prison until Tuesday afternoon when his bail application will be heard.

Governor Obado who was represented by four lawyers saw his legal team’ plea of having him being detained at Gigiri Police station being denied but instead to be taken to Industrial Area.

The prosecution legal team led by the Assistant Deputy Public Prosecutor Jacob Ondari and Tom Imbali called for the denial of bond application and applied for the Governor to remain remanded until Friday.

Speaking to Justice Jessie, Mr. Ondari said that they have an upcoming case this Wednesday involving the same case and they would like to consolidate the two cases.

Appearing during the trial was Sharon Atieno’s mum who followed the proceedings carefully even though she was full of grief.

Sharon who was abducted alongside Nation Media reporter Barrack Oduor, was found dead and dumped in Kodera forest.

At the time of her death she was pregnant but deep stub wounds from her back are said to have killed her unborn baby.

First to be arrested was Governor Obado’s PA Mr. Oyamo who is still in custody.

The taxi driver at the time of sharon’s murder was also arrested alongside the owner of the car.

Last week Governor Obado’s accounts were frozen as millions are said to have been transacted by his brothers and the money wired to the Governor’s children accounts.

About 100 bank accounts in abroad are to investigated.

Meanwhile the family of the late Sharon has stopped burial preparations of their daughter until when the perpetrators are brought to justice.
