Gov’t intensifies peace restoration exercise in Marsabit

The government through the Interior Ministry has intensified peace restoration and stopping ethnic clashes in Marsabit County.

This is after Interior Cabinet Secretary(CS) Dr. Fred Matiang’i met the multi-agency team during a breakfast session where they promised to maintain a sustained operation until all illegal firearms are recovered or surrendered.

“Dr. Fred Matiangi has commended the multi-agency security team undertaking Operation Rejesha Amani in Marsabit for restoring peace and stopping ethnic clashes in the County.

At a breakfast interaction with the officers at their camp, the CS said the operation will be sustained until all illegal weapons are surrendered/retrieved.” Said Interior CS

The operation which was launched in May, targets recovery of weapons and flashing out miners in the County, targets to restore peace and end intercommunity violence.

“The objective of the operation launched in May 2nd is restoration of peace, the mop up of illegal weapons and the flushing out of illegal miners in the Kom area abutting Isiolo County.” Said Interior CS

Several people have lost their lives and animals stolen in Marsabit County as residents requested immediate action from the government. Learning has also been interrupted with parents safeguarding their children.

Pastoralists have been forced to relocate with some moving to town areas in fear of further attacks from the bandits.
