Five Homabay County officials and one former staff have today been charged with embezzlement of funds.
The five are accused of an alleged loss of Ksh 27.8 million. The five include Michael Owino Ooro, CarolineChepkemoi Sang, Judith Akinyi, Isaac Nyandege and Edwin Omondi.
On Friday Homa Bay Senior Principal magistrate Thomas Obuto denied bail appeal of the five accused.
Two others are expected to be arrested after a warrant of arrest was issued. They however have gone missing since Thursday.
The duo are Homa Bay assembly clerk Bob Kephers and accountant Mauice Amek.
The loss of Ksh 27.8 million is said to have happened between financial year 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 with the expenses applied as accommodation, travel and allowances for ward representatives.
The accused also face charges of unlawful acquisition of property and abuse of office.
The accused through their lawyer requested for bond on grounds that they are county officials and they will not evade court cases whether on bond or bail.
However Hellen Mutellah challenged the request to allow bail as they have other pending corruption related charges.
