Housing Fund Levy extended by the court

The government has suffered another setback after the Employmentand Labour Relations Court extending the implementation of 1.5 percent HousingFund Levy.

Passing the judgment was Judge Maureen Onyango who consolidatedmore than ten cases most of them filed by trade unions.

In her own words, the Judge said that consolidating the cases will save time and that most of the issues raise are related.

The case will again be mentioned on June 10th forfurther directions.

The Housing Fund Levy is a partnership between the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development, and Public Works and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in a bid to achieve the big four agenda set by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Both the employer andthe employee shall each contribute 1.5% of the employee monthly basic salaryprovided that the sum of the total monthly contribution does not exceed Fivethousand shillings.
