Housing Fund Levy extended by the court

The government has suffered another setback after the Employment and Labour Relations Court extending the implementation of 1.5 percent Housing Fund Levy.

Passing the judgment was Judge Maureen Onyango who consolidated more than ten cases most of them filed by trade unions.

In her own words, the Judge said that consolidating the cases will save time and that most of the issues raise are related.

The case will again be mentioned on June 10th for further directions.

The Housing Fund Levy is a partnership between the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development, and Public Works and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in a bid to achieve the big four agenda set by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Both the employer and the employee shall each contribute 1.5% of the employee monthly basic salary provided that the sum of the total monthly contribution does not exceed Five thousand shillings.
