HPV vaccine launched by President Uhuru in Mombasa

HPV vaccine has been launched on Friday by President Uhuru Kenyatta at Ziwani Primary School in Mombasa.

Present at the HPV vaccine launch was Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho and Health CS Sicily Kariuki.

The vaccine is expected to be administered to all girls from the age of 10 years in the fight against cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer has been termed the leading cause of death among women with reports indicating nine women die daily from it.

The nationwide activity will be administered by both NGOs and private sector nurses who are estimated to be around 8,000 in number.

Young girls will be administered the vaccine twice every six months as required by the health ministry.

President Uhuru Kenyatta witnessed the vaccination of the first 10 children as she called on people not to fight science.

“Let us not fight science, let us talk and agree for a prosperous future. Cancer does not know tribe or religion it affects all of us,” H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta
